Why Kitten Health Care Is Important

Kittens grow rapidly during their first year of life, and their immune systems are still developing. Consistent health care helps:

Prevent common illnesses and infections
Support healthy growth and development
Catch potential health issues early
Ensure your kitten transitions smoothly into adulthood

With proper veterinary care, nutrition, and a safe environment, kittens thrive both physically and emotionally.

First Veterinary Visit

We recommend scheduling your kitten’s first vet visit within 3–5 days of bringing them home. This initial visit helps establish a health baseline and ensures your kitten is adjusting well.

During this visit, your veterinarian may:

Perform a full physical examination
Check weight, heart, lungs, eyes, ears, and teeth
Discuss vaccination and deworming schedules
Answer any care questions you may have

Kitten Health & Wellness Care

Please note: This schedule is a general guideline we follow for kitten care. Exact treatments may vary by breeder or kitten. A specific, up-to-date health record will be provided at the time of adoption.

Day 1: Kitten is born. Close monitoring begins, focusing on nursing, body temperature, and healthy weight gain.
Day 10: Initial deworming using Pyrantel Pamoate to prevent common intestinal parasites such as roundworms and hookworms.
Day 20: Second round of Pyrantel Pamoate deworming.
Day 21: Kitten is ready for microchip or identification if applicable. Initial photo set is taken.
Day 25: Optional Bordetella vaccination (if recommended by veterinarian or required by environment).
Day 30: Deworming with Fenbendazole (Panacur) or equivalent broad-spectrum dewormer.
Day 33: First FVRCP vaccination (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia).
Day 36: Repeat Pyrantel Pamoate deworming.
Day 42: Preventative treatment for coccidia if needed, based on stool examination.
Day 48: Second FVRCP vaccination.
Day 49: Comprehensive veterinary health examination.
Day 50: Additional deworming with Pyrantel Pamoate.
8 Weeks: Kitten is generally ready for adoption, depending on development and health status.

Continued Protocol Until Adoption

Day 56: Topical flea prevention treatment (kitten-safe formula).
Day 63: FVRCP booster vaccination.
Day 70: Final Pyrantel Pamoate deworming prior to adoption.
10 Weeks: Final photo and video update.
Day 77: Repeat flea prevention treatment if required.
Day 84: Final FVRCP booster (as recommended by veterinarian).
Day 91: Final deworming dose if necessary.
4 Months: Rabies vaccination (required timing may vary by location and state law).

Ongoing Care Recommendations

Monthly: Routine parasite prevention as recommended by your veterinarian.
Quarterly: Fecal examination and deworming if needed.
Monthly: Flea prevention using veterinarian-approved products.
